Joseph Cannon Gatty

‘The passing of the late Mr Gatty is regretted by all who knew him. He was very popular in the town and the fact that amongst the mourners were Rev Carlos Stretch (Anglican), Rev Robb (Presbyterian), Rev AF Crapp (Methodist), Rev Watkin-Smith (Baptist), Father Meagher and Father Bourke (Catholic), was ample proof of his tolerant nature, and of the esteem in which he was held by all sections of the community. Mr Gatty was 55 years of age.’
