Thomas Abbott

Chief Constable for a time at Dungog before losing this position in controversial circumstances due, it was alleged, to his having confronted a local magistrate. The Abbotts lived at a house called Violet Hill that remains in the possession of the family today. Thomas is reported to have died of a ‘wasting disease’ in 1868.

Frank Auckett

Paterson based buyer of produce for wholesale in Newcastle and Sydney Markets from the late 1920s until his sudden death in 1945. Mainly oranges and rabbit skins, Frank Auckett would closely watch the city markets and offer prices accordingly. He owned packing sheds in Paterson and often visited Dungog and other places in the Hunter Valley to purchase rabbit skins.
